Horncastle is a market town located at around 35 kilometers from the county town of Lincoln. The town is strategically placed south of the Lincolnshire Wolds.
It has a history of being a Roman fort known as Banovallum which means “Wall on the River Bain. The Saxons, however, upon coming called the town Hynecastre, which is closer to being the origin of the place’s current name. The Church of St. Mary located in the area goes back to the 13th century.
The town has quite a few industries to provide jobs and services. Some of these are the Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, and the Mortons of Horncastle.
For education, Horncastle does not miss on the three levels of primary, secondary and collegiate level. They have the Horncastle Primary School, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Banovallum School, and the Hroncastle College.
The town is famous as being the “antiques town”, with its varied collections and colllectors. There are also sports such as football, hockey, and cricket.
